private caller

I get this private call today and let it go to voicemail. I checked the message later in the day and guess who it is - Ms. Jacobs the recruiter. I met with her before landing my current job (I got this one on my own). She's a terrible recruiter - absolute worst bedside manner - phony and a liar as well.

But to my point - the message showed me how far I've come. I am thankfully not like the thousands of recruiters out there. I know how to leave a message - an effective message where you will want to call me back. I will not say empty or canned lines like, "I immediately thought of you!" Jennifer, why did you immediately think of me? What are you calling me about? Why would you think a cryptic voicemail would motivate me to call you back? How about you speak to me as a person about something solid and about something you know would be of interest to me. Do not bang out your daily generic calls only to dig through your database some more.

Honestly, everyone has a job (or not these days) but that does not mean we are necessarily good at them. We may get by, perhaps earn lots of money - but are we good at them? Ive learned so much at my current job and I love it. That is what I wanted - to learn and be great at my job. I am conscious of my path and I am taking a deliberate step everyday. I simply treat people like people and not like resumes - it's different than most recruiters and it's different for better.

I wont be returning her call, why would I?
